Crank Start is part of an ongoing concern wih the influence of rcording technology on acoustically produced music. In this case the source of inspiration was the 78 r.p.m. gramophone: its surface scratching, proneness to get stuck and wind down prematurely, its mechanical noises, and in particular the sound of its rotations.
