Horn, trombone, F tuba
The point of departure for this piece was regarding the three instruments as duplexes, in that the horn and trombone are tuned in Bb and F, and the tuba in F and C. This 'fourths' tuning (Bb/F/C) provides the basis for the duration of the horn and tuba tones, which are derived rhythmically from the basic proportion 16:12:9. The trombone explores the room between intervals which are tunable by ear, and dissonances that are based on these tunable intervals.
